BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
To complete the installation, you will first need to download the corresponding files from our website which can be seen at the following link: http://www.pcigeomatics.com/Downloads
**Please note that the demo data is a separate installation and is not included in the above file.
Step 1 – Software Installation
Launch the Geomatica executable that you previously downloaded. The following window appears:
The Geomatica Installation Wizard starts.
Click ‘Next’ to proceed.
The license agreement for Geomatica appears. Please read through the agreement and select ‘I accept the terms in the license agreement’ and then click ‘Next’ to proceed. By not agreeing to the terms and conditions the installation will immediately cancel.
The Installation Location screen appears. Choose a destination folder to install the software, and then click ‘Next’.
**Due to certain read/write permission issues under the Program Files on new Windows machines, the default installation location is the C: drive. We suggest keeping this default installation path in order to run Geomatica.
Depending on your current Python configuration you may receive the following window. This window will only appear if you have Python 2.7 already installed on your computer, such as if you are updating from Geomatica 2018 to Geomatica Banff. See Python Support in Geomatica Banff for more information on Geomatica Banff Python changes.
**Note – It is recommended that you use Python 3.5 as the next release of Geomatica will not support Python 2.7.
The Python Environment window now appears. This allows you to choose whether you would like to set up your Python environment to use Python 3.5 by default. If you un-check this option your current Python environment will not be changed.
The Installation Location screen appears. Choose a destination folder to install the software, and then click ‘Next’.
**Due to certain read/write permission issues under the Program Files on Windows machines, the default installation location is the C: drive. We suggest keeping this default installation path in order to run Geomatica.
For a Standalone Installation (without a dongle), choose Standalone (local license without a dongle) as the installation type, and click ‘Next’.
The installation is ready to begin.
Click ‘Install’.
The Geomatica Installation Wizard is complete. Check “Start the License Utility” and click ‘Finish’.
Step 2 – Requesting a License File
Now that the installation has completed you will need to request a license file.
- On your computer open the Geomatica License utility (last icon on Geomatica toolbar).
- Copy the fingerprint information from the Fingerprint text field and send it to support@pcigeomatics.com
- Be sure to include in the e-mail your customer number, name and company name along with the fingerprint information.
- You will then be sent a license file by our PCI Licensing team.
If this is a student license request, copy and paste the fingerprint information from the License Utility into the Student License Portal. You will receive an email with a license key for the duration of your course.
**Geomatica comes with a trial mode that automatically enables software functionality. See Trial Days Left to see how many days you are entitled to.
Step 3 – Importing a License File
- Upon receiving your license file, save the license file to your computer.
- After doing so click the Import button in the License Utility (last icon on Geomatica toolbar), navigate to the location of the license file and import it.

Python Support in Geomatica Banff
In Geomatica Banff support for Python 3.5 has been added. The official End of Life (EOL) date for Python 2.7 is 2020 - https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0373/#update. As such, Python 3.5 is now the suggested version for use with Geomatica Banff. We highly recommend that users switch their existing scripts to Python 3.5 as the next release of Geomatica will not support Python 2.7. Information is available from the following link on the changes between versions and how to update Python 2.7 scripts to Python 3.5 - https://docs.python.org/3/howto/pyporting.html.
To help reduce the disruption to customer’s workflows, PCI has chosen to provide customers with the option to set up Geomatica Banff to use Python 3.5, Python 2.7 (same as Geomatica 2018) or both Python 3.5 and Python 2.7. If you have Geomatica Python 2.7 scripts that you would like to continue using in Geomatica Banff, we would recommend choosing the “Install required modules for Python 3.5 and Python 2.7” option as this will allow you to run your Geomatica Python 2.7 scripts but also update the scripts to run in Python 3.5.
